Why Species-Specific Lighting Matters
Livestock do not see light the way people do. Matching spectrum, intensity and dimming to each animal is what turns a fixture into a production tool.
Poultry — four-cone vision
Chickens see ultraviolet, red, blue and green (four cones). Flicker is their single largest stress source, red light elevates plasma androgens that support weight gain, and blue light activates muscle growth. Smooth, flicker-free dawn/dusk dimming is non-negotiable.
Swine — dichromatic
Pigs see blue (peak 439 nm) and green (peak 556 nm) but cannot perceive red (>650 nm). Effective "daylight" for swine falls in the 380–580 nm band; the wrong spectrum wastes energy and stresses the herd.
Dairy — photoperiod drives yield
A 16-hour light / 8-hour dark regime at 150–200 lux — and no blue light — is independently shown to raise milk yield by up to 15%, improve fertility, sharpen oestrus detection and shorten calving intervals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is IP69K rating mandatory for poultry farm LED lights?
Poultry houses require daily high-pressure, high-temperature water-jet cleaning and chemical disinfection. IP69K (per IEC 60529) certifies complete ingress protection against 100-bar water pressure at 80°C from any angle, preventing washdown water and corrosive ammonia vapor from reaching the LED driver and optics. An IP65/IP66 fixture will fail under routine pressure washing within 6–12 months; IP69K fixtures are engineered for the 3–5 year service life expected in commercial houses. For food-safety compliance (e.g., EU Regulation 852/2004, USDA washdown requirements), IP69K is the de facto standard, not a premium option.
How does 0.1% smooth flicker-free dimming improve poultry production?
Chickens detect flicker up to 100 Hz+, far above the human threshold. Conventional PWM dimming creates sub-threshold strobing that raises flock stress, increases cannibalism, and disrupts melatonin-driven growth and laying cycles. Our 0.1% smooth (non-PWM, constant-current) dimming eliminates perceptible flicker across the full 0–100% range, lowering stress hormones, improving feed conversion ratio (FCR) by 2–4%, and lifting egg production 1–3% in layer trials. Smooth dawn/dusk ramping further prevents panic surges during light transitions.
What LED spectrum is best for broiler vs layer hens?
Broilers respond best to a red-dominant spectrum (peak ~660 nm) that calms birds and supports weight gain, often combined with limited blue for activity control. Layers benefit from a fuller white spectrum with balanced red:blue ratio to sustain consistent photoperiod-driven laying without melatonin suppression. We tune peak wavelength and CRI per species and age — a single fixed 'white' tube is suboptimal for both. Custom spectrum is available for hatchery, brooder, grower, and layer phases.
How many lux do layer hens and broilers need?
Commercial layers perform best at 10–20 lux during lay (≈ 1–3 fc), with a strict 14–17 h photoperiod; broilers are typically raised at 20–50 lux with scheduled dim periods. Overshooting lux wastes energy and can cause feather pecking. Our dimmable fixtures let you hit the exact target lux and hold it uniformly (±5%) across the house via per-zone calibration — far more consistent than fixed-output tubes.
Can LED livestock lights survive ammonia and high humidity?
Yes — if engineered for it. Our livestock fixtures use anti-ammonia conformal-coated drivers, stainless/ceramic housings, and IP69K sealed optics to resist NH₃ concentrations common in swine and cattle houses (often > 20–50 ppm). Standard office LEDs corrode within months in this environment; corrosion-rated agricultural fixtures are rated for 3–5 year life under
What light spectrum do pigs (swine) need?
Pigs have dichromatic vision and see blue (peak ~439 nm) and green (peak ~556 nm) but cannot perceive red light (>650 nm). Effective "daylight" for swine therefore sits in the 380–580 nm band; lighting outside it is wasted energy and can stress the herd. Our swine fixtures are tuned to that band with intensity and photoperiod adjustable per growth stage.
How does lighting increase dairy (cow) milk yield?
Independent dairy research shows a 16-hour light / 8-hour dark regime at 150–200 lux — with no blue light, which stresses cattle — raises milk yield by up to 15%, improves fertility, sharpens oestrus detection and shortens calving intervals. Our barn luminaires deliver uniform 150+ lux at floor level and support the 0/1-10V or DALI dimming needed to run that photoperiod program automatically.
